Just some rap and pop songs I threw together one day when I was bored. At first, I forgot to Tumblr it, but now I done ‘membered.
The November compilation was born during an extended Thanksgiving break, as I digitized my dad’s near-complete collection of Dylan LPs for him. That explains why Bob keeps popping up. There’s some new thrown in with the old, though. Best when played on low-key mornings and/or somber drives to work in the cold.
Watched this NASA vid and happened to be listening to R.E.M. at the same time. Sync’ed up so beautifully that I had to get into my movie program and slap ‘em together.
If you’re one of those people who regularly experience the joys of HD Radio, you might’ve heard my voice last week on the Dallas-based Indie-Verse station. The guys in charge there were nice enough to invite me in a couple months ago to share some favorite tunes and pimp mah Tumblr. The result of that session aired a few times last week and is now streaming. It’s a good playlist for work times. Enjoy.
I was futzing around at a flea market the other weekend and came upon a huge box of ’90s cassingles. The person who’d collected them had a major soft spot for that whole mid-’90s pop radio cluuub-music movement. I didn’t necessarily enjoy these songs at the time they were popular, simply because I’d hear the same ones over and over on a loop. But now that it’s been nearly two decades (yikes), I’ve found a new joy in listening to these one-hit wonders. So I put together a little pedestrian dance mix using the tapes. Enjoy. If anything, it’ll take you back.
OCTOBER 2011 COMPILATION (SIDE A): STREAM ON MIXCLOUD
Here’s the September comp, which is the oddball result of me playing around with Audacity one night. I’m sure it’s an affront to real DJs everywhere, but you should at least give it a listen before Facebook and Spotify team up to control your thoughts.
SEPTEMBER 2011 COMPILATION: STREAM ON MIXCLOUD
Programming note: I landed a nice freelance gig as a local-music scribbler for D Magazine’s FrontRow arts blog. Kicking things off with a multi-day fall new-music preview. Check out Part 1 here and Part 2 here. And stay tuned for Part 3 (update: here). That is all.
I can’t adequately explain my mood lately, so I’ll let the August compilation do it for me. It’s introspective, a little melodramatic and, at times, bordering on new-age-y. Kicks off with Neon Indian’s “Fallout” (my official “drive away” song of the summer) and ends with good ‘ol Simon & Garfunkel. If you play the MP3 in iTunes, you can “get info” and see the track listing under the LYRICS tab. Enjoy!
